Based in Compton, “Compton Advocates” is an organization which encourages action and unity through educating and empowering its residents. Candace, a proud product of Compton, is the founder of Compton Advocates and runs its Instagram page, which is a powerful resource that informs residents about food giveaways, town halls, small businesses, and any event concerning the city of Compton – no piece of knowledge or form of action is too trivial. This includes donating to various organizations, a food drive with the Pentecostals of Compton, a food distribution in partnership with the city and Yasiel Puig's Wildhorse Foundation; additionally, in July 2020, Compton Advocates is working on two community beautification projects in partnership with another local group and Foot Locker. Compton Advocates thrives to “change the negative narratives that have existed for far too long in Compton and to unite black and brown.” To achieve this, it is empirical to educate the Compton community and empower its residents to become advocates themselves, FOR themselves, and for the greater good of Compton.
